I don't supposed there is any kind of schedule for when 3D
graphics support might be available for Windows virtual machines?

At the moment VMWare appears to be the only system that
will run software that needs opengl to work, but I'd really
prefer to be able to use qemu, libvirt, and friends :-).

None that I know of. People are working on virgil/virtio-gpu which is a big
piece of the puzzle, but it's all best effort work at this point.
